Polar Bears, Mustaches, & Grandma

The Men of Hendricks Hall supporting a early season soccer game.

LIFE::
The last few weeks have been some GOOD times of exploring San Diego but I'm convinced there is still much more to see. I'm currently sitting in my dorm room watching my roommate dance to ridiculous techno ballads that he just purchased off of iTunes. I already addressed how ridiculous it sounds yet he still proceeds to play it ... but little timmy never bothers me. In fact, he pretty much never leaves my side on the weekends. Speaking of the weekends... here's what I've been up to:

-COFFEE-
This is The Living Room (for those who don't live in san diego or aren't up to speed on the trendy coffee stops in their hometown). This is my favorite coffee shop in Point Loma.

-SAN DIEGO ZOO-
Allison and I went to the San Diego Zoo a few weeks ago and wanted to bring some of these guys home with us!

A freggin' huge Gurilla

My dog is the cousin of this kind fellow taking a mid day dip.

-OCEAN BEACH-
Ocean Beach one cloudy day.

I took a run down Sunset Cliffs last Saturday.
A must do for anyone whether drive/run/bike ride.

-BROTHER-
My brother came down to visit a few fridays ago and we went to my favorite coffee shop in 'San Diego' called Claire De Lune in North Park. We watched this funky Jimmi Hendrix sounding rock/blues band. Most locked in bass/drums combo I've heard in quite some time.

-Grandma-
My Grandmother turned 82 on September 7th. My uncle Jim came to surprise her from Alabama. We went sailing at Coronado that Saturday and we took g-ma to dinner that night. She was so stoked to see us!

That's her boyfriend on the left. He's a 87 year old vet who was a General in the Army. Translation: He's a big deal. But seriously, the coolest dude with enough stories about his 5 wars to last you 100 sit down dinners at Marie Calendars.

-PADRES GAME-
Tim, Allison, my new friends Austin & Emily and I went to Petco Park in Downtown San Diego to see the Dodgers vs. the Padres. We sat on the outfield grass in the family zone. Cheapest seat in the house and infinite leg room. Who's gunna argue with that?

Roommates!
The fam sitting in the family zone.

-SAILING-
Last Saturday, I went sailing for the first time ever without someone to tell me what to do. Allison and I made it a day out in Mission Bay when the wind was howling and the sun was hiding behind the stubborn clouds. Nevertheless, we were stoked to set sail yet sub-consciously scarred out of our minds if something were to go wrong. We had a pretty solid take off (to be honest, I kinda surprised myself (don't tell ally) haha). We were having a great time after 45 minutes of absolute cruising back and forth maintaining stability and trying my hardest to keep my skeptical girlfriend from any hint of doubts/lack of trust. Did I mention that it was outlandishly windy that day? We were picking up speed pretty fast and started flying across the water at one point. Allison was in charge of the front sail and I was steering us in the back. As we started going faster, Ally started panicking yelling, "GAR! What do I do!? What do I do?!" As I helplessly yelled back, "I don't know! I don't know!"... And those were the last words I remember saying before we went flying overboard. Yes, my friends... we flipped our catamaran.

As we sat there in the water bobbing together like little white ping-pong balls with our life vests on, my favorite part of the story is this very moment. I remember Allison and I laughing harder than we've ever laughed. It was as though the fear that we had been making fun the whole day had finally floated to surface (how's that for a double meaning?). Luckily some friendly sailers nearby came to rescue but instead of stopping before he got to us, the front of his boat ran into ours tearing the sail a good four feet across. Ally and I were calm telling ourselves and each other that everything was going to be... ok (*Sidenote: for you Strength Quest Advocates... my Positivity was peaking at this point). A few other spectating sailors swam over and together, we pulled the boat right side up and picked up where we left off. After that ordeal, we both agreed that it was a wise choice to return to shore since we couldn't do much with a wounded sail. The rest of the day, Allison and I continued to revisit an experience that we've laughed at all week and will remember for a long, long, time.

So that's me the last few weeks. I'll be keeping up more on this blog in the future so bookmark it with love knowing that I'll do my best to entertain you with my stories of life from the streets of loma land.

much love,
garrett

ps: last night my roommate became a man.

beginning of little Timmy's journey into Manhood.
